Michigan car accidents can leave families devastated

When a fatal car crash happens, the families of victims have to face a life without their loved ones by their sides. Such a tragic loss is only exacerbated when someone else is to blame for the collision. Though some car accidents are caused by impaired, distracted or dangerous driving, another common category are accidents caused by negligent driving. A recent accident here in Michigan may have been caused by that very reason and has left one mother mourning the loss of her daughter.

The accident in question occurred on a recent morning at an intersection in Detroit where a woman was driving her car to meet her mother. Another driver allegedly ran through a stoplight and struck the woman’s vehicle, killing her instantly. Authorities say that the man in the other car was critically injured and had to be rushed to a local hospital for treatment where he remains.

The woman’s family assembled at the accident site to mourn her and remember the life she lived. As for the crash, authorities have not disclosed any other reasons that the incident may have occurred, other than the driver allegedly running the red light. There has been no announcement on whether the male driver will face any criminal charges in connection with the collision.

It is possible that the family of the woman who died could file a wrongful death lawsuit in a Michigan civil court against the driver of the other car, even if he faces no criminal charges. If they did pursue litigation, it could result in financial restitution that could help the family cover any expenses related to the crash. Car accidents like this one should never have to happen, but there are ways for families to see that those at fault are held responsible for their actions.
