Pileup in Detroit leaves at least 4 people with injuries

A terrible pileup accident snarled the morning commute on the west side of Detroit today, with the crash involving at least eight vehicles according to the police. The motor vehicle accident started when two cars collided, sending one of the vehicles into a pickup truck. The truck rolled over and was eventually struck by five other vehicles, though that number was unconfirmed. One of those potential five vehicles was a semi truck.

Four people needed hospitalization as a result of the crash, though thankfully their injuries were described as "non-life threatening." There may have been more hospitalized victims, but details are scarce at this point.

The police will investigate the collision, and it could be awhile before we know anymore about this accident. However, the police did give a couple of interesting hints into the collision: alcohol use and seatbelt use are both being looked at by investigators.

The seatbelt use is of minor consequence in the legal realm, though it does portray an unsafe driver or passenger. However, the alcohol use is a major element to this crash. If it can be proven that one of the drivers involved in this wreck was intoxicated beyond the legal limit, they could be held liable in any resulting civil lawsuit filed by the victims of the crash.

Injured victims of car accidents need to consider their legal options in the wake of a crash. They have medical bills to pay; their vehicle has been damaged; and their life may be permanently affected by the incident. If someone was negligent or irresponsible during (or in the buildup to) the crash, their reckless behavior could lead to you receiving compensatory damages for the pain and suffering you have endured.
