Tragic Michigan car accidents can claim even a young life

High school students face so many obstacles these days. However, one that they seem to ignore is that life can be fleeting. They likely do not expect to learn that one of their friends, a recent graduate, has been killed in one of the many car accidents that happen every day on streets throughout Michigan and across the country.

The victim in this particular accident was a 19-year-old resident of Clinton Township and a 2012 graduate of a local high school. Police reports indicate that the victim's car was hit as she attempted to cross and turn west on Metropolitan Parkway. Following the incident, she was transported to a local hospital where she was later declared dead.

The driver who hit her appeared to be drunk at the time of the accident. Based on his actions, he was arrested and taken to a hospital where blood alcohol tests were performed. Reports indicate that neither road nor weather conditions were a factor in the accident.

If it is confirmed that the driver was legally drunk when the accident occurred, he could be charged with this in addition to other traffic-related charges he may be facing. Additionally, while the victim's family mourns her untimely death, they must also consider the expenses associated with it. A wrongful death claim would not restore this young life; however, it could help provide some restitution for the financial losses that have resulted. Car accidents are a common occurrence, but when they are the result of negligence and illegal actions, Michigan families should carefully consider their options.
