Michigan car accidents claim lives of young people too often

One of the last things any parent wants to deal with is the death of a child. Many times, that loss occurs in an unfortunate car accident, making the situation even more difficult. It comes as no surprise that too many youth are tragically killed in car accidents on Michigan roads each year. A recent single-vehicle accident has resulted in the death of a 12-year-old.

In the accident, which happened on Dec. 31, 2013, a car driven by a 14-year-old crashed into a tree. According to the police, the car was speeding on a road made slick with snow at about 2 a.m. Due to the conditions and the speed, the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and struck the tree. The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

As a result of his injuries, the 12-year-old passenger was killed. Due to the facts of the case, the family of the 12-year-old might have legal cause to file a wrongful death claim against the youth who was driving. If this is the case, his family could be held responsible for his actions.

Car accidents that result in the loss of a child are typically quite devastating, leaving the parents to struggle with the grief and financial burdens that often accompany such a tragedy. Unfortunately, these accidents occur all too often in the state of Michigan. While wrongful death lawsuits can do little to ease the difficulty of the loss, they can help with the financial woes that these accidents frequently cause. With that in mind, any Michigan parent facing such a situation may choose to file a wrongful death claim that seeks to hold the other party accountable according to the law.
