Michigan car accidents often accompany bad weather

The blustery winter weather here in Michigan can create dangerous road conditions for drivers. The first two months of this year have already proven to be deadly for motorists who may have had difficulty navigating through poorer weather. Authorities encourage drivers to use extreme caution or stay home when snow and ice are present in order to avoid car accidents. Sadly, not everyone heeds these warnings. This was highlighted by a recent car crash that took the lives of four people and injured five others.

The accident happened on an early morning when six women were commuting to work in an SUV. The driver was unable to maintain control of her car and she got in the way of a truck that subsequently struck the SUV. Four of the occupants of the SUV died at the site of the crash. The driver of the SUV, one of her passengers and all three of those in the truck sustained injuries.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing. At least one other accident -- though much more minor -- occurred earlier in the day on this same roadway. Police have not filed any criminal charges at this time or released any more information about other contributing factors.

These types of car accidents are unfortunate, but police stress that they can be avoided. There is no word on whether the driver of the SUV will have a civil case brought against her by the surviving family members of those who died or by any of the injured victims. If such a case were pursued, any financial compensation awarded from a successful claim could be applied to funeral costs, outstanding medical bills or even lost wages. Michigan residents should always try to take the potential road conditions into account before making the decision to get behind the wheel..
