Mother of 5 died in 1 of many OWI car accidents in Michigan

When loved ones are killed in automobile accidents caused by intoxicated drivers, the trauma experienced by the family is often intensified. This is because such an accident would not have occurred had the driver not been operating a vehicle while under the influence. Despite campaigns to reduce the occurrences of drunk driving, such car accidents are reported in Michigan daily.

A mother of five children was one of the seven occupants, which included some of her children, of a minivan that ran out of fuel while en route. With the help of another person, she attempted to push the vehicle. A pickup truck that was travelling in the same direction came from behind and smashed into the minivan, killing the mother on impact.

All the occupants of the minivan were taken to a nearby hospital to have their injuries checked. The driver of the pickup fled into the nearby woods where he was later apprehended. It was reported that alcohol was a contributing factor in this accident, and the driver was taken into custody. He is now facing charges of causing a fatality while OWI, or operating while intoxicated, and fleeing the scene of an accident where fatalities occurred.

If residents of Michigan have been affected by car accidents caused by a drunk driver, they may want to gain knowledge about state laws related to death and injury in drunk driving accidents. Families who have lost loved ones in such accidents may retain the right to file wrongful death claims in a civil court. In instances where only injuries rather than death occurred, the victims may be free to file personal injury claims. The high cost of funerals and medical care could cause financial hardship for victims and their families. Successful litigation may result in monetary compensation to assist those coping with expenses incurred as a result of a tragedy.
