Head-on collision example of tragic Michigan car accidents

Modern life depends on motor vehicles for transportation. Unfortunately, this means that car accidents are a common occurrence. Here in Michigan, families know that they should follow the rules of the road both for their own safety and that of others. There are times when there is a clear-cut reason for a car accident, but other times, investigators do not immediately know the cause. Recently, a head-on collision left police asking the public for help in determining what happened.

The accident took place in the early morning on a state highway. Two cars traveling in opposite directions collided when one driven by a 17-year-old passenger went over the center line. The car crashed with a car driven by a woman, and both drivers and a passenger in the first car all required medical attention. All three have severe injuries, though the drivers are listed in stable condition.

Police have stated openly that they do not believe alcohol was a factor in this crash. They also have ruled out speed as a possible cause. They are now hoping that someone saw the incident and can offer insight as to why the young man driving the first car may have drifted into the other lane. Their investigation continues, and at this time, no criminal charges have been filed.

If the motorist in the first car is determined to be at fault for this crash, the other two victims involved may decide to file a civil claim for their injuries against him and any separate owner of the vehicle he was driving. A civil claim could mean monetary compensation that would be useful in covering unpaid medical bills and other expenses that may have come from this crash. Michigan police will have to conclude their inquiry before it can be officially determined what caused the collision. Car accidents like these often take time to investigate properly, though the victims have every right to seek restitution based upon evidence of negligence.
