Michigan car accidents affect more than just victims

Car crashes are devastating to the families who have loved ones involved in them. In the blink of an eye, lives may be forever changed by the negligent acts of someone else. Car accidents like these can tear families apart. Here in Michigan, a woman faces a civil suit stemming from a collision that she is accused of causing.

The accident happened a few months ago when a young woman was driving her car containing two other passengers. Authorities report that she was speeding and struck a car carrying three other people. In that car, two people died and the driver sustained minor injuries. The two passengers in the woman's car were also injured in the crash.

The woman must now contend with both criminal charges and a civil suit in relation to the fatalities that resulted. The woman is pleading with the court for leniency, as she says she is a single mother and does not wish to be away from her children. Whatever the outcome of this case, many lives will be affected -- those of the woman's children and the family who are grieving for their lost loved ones.

Even if the court does decide to accept a plea deal for the criminal charges, the civil case will still proceed. A successfully litigated claim could result in monetary compensation for the families of the victims, which could be used to cover unpaid medical bills, funeral costs and other expenses that may have resulted from the crash. Other Michigan residents who find themselves in similar situations after car accidents may decide to follow this family's example. Hopefully, the outcome will be that all families involved can find a sense of peace after such a terrible tragedy.
