Michigan car accidents often tied to impaired drivers

Despite the efforts of advocacy groups, many people still make the choice to get behind the wheel of a car after consuming alcohol. Fatal car accidents that are caused by an intoxicated driver are particularly tragic, as families try to grieve a family member who did not have to die. A man here in Michigan was recently accused of driving drunk and causing the death of a woman.

The accident occurred late at night when a truck was allegedly speeding down a quiet street. According to police, the driver of the truck failed to maintain control of the vehicle and ran into a tree. When police responded to the scene, they found the young woman already dead. Upon searching the area, they found an injured young man and deduced that he was the driver of the truck.

The man was arrested after receiving treatment at a local hospital. Police have not disclosed how they determined the man's level of intoxication, but they plan to charge him with an OUI causing death. At this time, that is the only charge the young man is facing.

This may not be the only time the man will have to appear in court for this case. It is possible that the family of the young woman here in Michigan may decide to file a civil suit against the young man if it is determined that he negligently caused her death. A successfully litigated claim could result in financial compensation that could be used to pay funeral costs and other expenses related to this tragedy. Car accidents like these can cause families extreme grief, but there are ways to see that justice is done.
