Any car accident is devastating to those involved. Injury and loss of life are some of the biggest risks that people face when they are involved in a crash. When the other vehicle involved happens to be a large truck, the possibility that someone will be severely injured goes up significantly. Recently, here in Michigan, one person died and two others were injured after a collision with a semi-truck. Truck accidents can be particularly deadly, and this one was no exception.
The accident occurred when a tanker truck collided with a car at an intersection. Authorities have not disclosed many details surrounding the crash at this time. There is no word on which direction each vehicle was traveling or what may have caused the truck to hit the car. Two people remain in a local hospital with significant injuries, and one person did not survive. The truck driver was not injured.
At this time, there is no word from authorities on whether anyone involved in the crash was driving under the influence or if they were suffering from fatigue -- two very common reasons that an accident might happen. The accident is still under investigation, as the state police are helping the local police department asses all the facts surrounding the case. No one has been charged at this time, and it is unclear whether anyone will face charges in the future.
If it is determined that the driver of the tanker truck caused this accident, he or she might face criminal charges here in Michigan. There may even be a wrongful death suit from the family of the victim who died or a personal injury suit from those who were injured. If a suit were successfully litigated, it could mean financial restitution for the victims or their families. Any monetary gain could be used for funeral expenses, unpaid medical bills, property damage or other costs associated with this accident. Truck accidents can change a person's life in an instant, but there are ways for a family to cope with the aftermath.
