Cause of crash uncertain in one of Michigan's truck accidents

Car crashes here in Michigan affect far too many families. Sometimes, there are clear cut answers regarding who was at fault for the collision, and the actions of one or more motorists involved could even be considered to be criminal. Other times, the causes are not so easily seen. Truck accidents are particularly dangerous due to the size of the vehicle involved. Police are still investigating one such accident involving a truck and have not yet determined who may have been at fault for the death of a man.

The accident happened in the morning when a man driving a small car was hit by a semi truck. The man was killed immediately, and the driver of the truck walked away uninjured. The car was broadsided and so badly damaged that it took first responders a long time to retrieve the body. Traffic was backed up while the site of the accident was being inspected.

Investigators were initially uncertain whether either driver may have ignored a red light that could have prevented the crash. There has been no word on any possible impairment of either driver, either due to fatigue, alcohol or another cause. If the crash is deemed to be the fault of the semi-truck driver, the possibility exists that he could face criminal charges in relation to this fatal accident.

If the semi-truck driver turns out to be responsible for this Michigan crash, a civil claim may be filed against him and his employer by the family of the motorist who died. If litigation is pursued, a successfully presented claim could mean financial compensation for the victim's family that for any costs that may have been brought about by the crash, such as funeral expenses and other financial damages recognized by our wrongful death laws. Fatal truck accidents like this one are typically investigated carefully in order to see that justice is served.
